Biden warns GOP Congress will try to ban abortion nationwide

"The president repeated his warning to Democratic governors that a GOP Congress would try and ban abortion nationwide," said Biden in opening comments. He also shared concerns about access across state lines for reproductive health services such as contraception or terminations up until 12 weeks LMP (Last menstrual period).

"We have to make sure that we protect a woman's right to choose," said Biden. "I know that some of my friends in the other party disagree with me, but I think it is clear that the vast majority of Americans did not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned by the extremist court."

Biden's comments come as multiple Republican-led state legislatures are seeking to pass laws that would effectively ban abortion. These so-called "trigger laws" would make it illegal to have an abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, or ban abortion outright. These bills will most certainly be signed into law.

Biden also spoke about the importance of protecting access to reproductive health, regardless of their income or zip code. and that means making sure that women have access to the full range of reproductive health care services," said Biden. "That includes contraception, it includes abortion, it includes everything."

“We cannot afford to go backward on women’s reproductive rights, it is important that we all rally together to send that message to republicans at the ballot box this November.”
